ABOUT US
HISTORY
Henties Bay PRIVATE SCHOOL was founded on May 31st 2016 by Retha Kruger and Dianne Burger under the name West Coast EDU-CENTRE. Realising the need for a higher level of education, quality of teaching and a properly managed school in the coastal town of Henties Bay, our founders decided to combine their individual experiences in education and business to form West Coast EDU-CENTRE. Scouring the town in search of a suitable house to rent, 1339 Jakkalsputz Road was leased and transformed over 4 days. Paint, furniture, carpets, light fittings and new blinds turned an ordinary house into a school with 3 classrooms, a reception, an office, a bright yellow common room and a lovely grass covered playground.
The school had 1 teacher and 4 students (Grade 1 and 2) on the morning of May 31st 2016 when the doors opened for the first day. Our uniform was grey, navy blue and white. By September of that year the school had grown to 14 students and 4 teachers. On 20 December 2016 our application to operate as a Namibian Private School to offer Primary and Secondary education based on the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS, South Africa) was approved, making us the first school in Henties Bay to be awarded this specific registration.
2017 started off with a bang with 22 enroled students (Grade RR - 10) at the same premises. We renovated an outside building to accommodate 2 more classrooms and employed 2 more teachers.

In 2018 the year opened with 28 enroled students (Grade RR - 11) and 7 teachers.
The school had its first Sports Day where students participated in track and field items. Henties Bay also made history when it had its first ever Interschool Athletics Day where the 3 local schools competed in track and field items. We said goodbye to the 2018 school year with a stunning Year-End Concert and Prize-Giving Ceremony where we publicly performed our School Anthem for the first time. This event also marked the end of our 2 and a half year tenure at 1339 Jakkalsputz Road.
In January 2019 the school kicked off at next to Henties Bay Golf & Lifestyle Estate on the C34 towards Terrace Bay with 35 students and 8 teachers. The school leased the land for 2 years and put up 7 classrooms, a reception with office space and a bathroom with 2 toilets. We added 3 more classrooms, an art room, 4 additional toilets and a small kitchen during the second and third quarter of the year.
In February 2019 the school's name was legally changed from West Coast EDU-CENTRE to Henties Bay PRIVATE SCHOOL.
The 2020 school year started with 52 students and 9 teachers where we introduced our new school uniform for Grade 1 - 12 as well.
We invited Riverside Private School for a sports day in February 2020 where students took part in track and field items.
Students had their first ever Valentine's Sokkie and the school organised a Mafia Masquerade Valentine's Dance with a live band & great food and the adults had a chance to play dress up!
And then the world came to a standstill... The rest of 2020 and 2021 went by in a blur...
But - 2022 brings many new things again! The school has taken a very big step forward in order to secure its future and its growth and will start at its new premises at 3210 Sand Street, located next to the LukZet horse stables. A gorgeous, safe and exciting new environment awaits our students from January 2022.

our students
Henties Bay PRIVATE SCHOOL can accommodate learners in pre-school from Grade RR (age 5) to Grade R (age 6) and can accommodate Primary and Secondary school learners from Grade 1 to Grade 9.
our classes
Students per classroom are kept to a maximum of 16 - 18 students. We have no combined classes (mixed grades) in the Foundation Phase (Grade 1, 2 and 3) because of our strong belief in creating an optimum learning environment during these early stages of schooling.
Our teachers and all our students rotate classes according to a roster - this gives even the Grade 1 students the opportunity to learn from and form a bond with several teachers and not just one teacher as such. Following a roster instills great discipline and independence in our students, especially in the younger grades.

WHAT DOES OUR LOGO REPRESENT?
our school anthem "tree of life"
During 2018, our Life Skills teacher, Christine Anderson, asked to write the lyrics to a School Anthem for our school. Written in English, Afrikaans lyrics were added by Retha Kruger. When the time came for the words to be turned into music, our founders had 2 requests: no high notes and make it happy! Eunice Viviers complied and the result is magical. A video of the first ever public performance of our OFFICIAL SCHOOL ANTHEM can be viewed on our Facebook page (click on the Icon below).
